In the year 2006, the doors of Lille Kabelvåg opened, and from its unassuming facade, visitors are welcomed into a world of artistic splendor. With an impressive 600 square meters at its disposal, the gallery stands proudly as one of Northern Norway’s largest private art galleries, a testament to the boundless dreams and creativity of its founders.

THE ARTIST
INGER ANNE NYAAS

Textiles are my medium, from delicate translucent fabrics in silk organza to repurposed and dyed old textiles. In my art, I explore various materials, such as textiles in spatial and conceptual projects like “Kopptua” (Northern Norwegian for kitchen towel), where everyday textiles find new meaning through the imprinting of different patterns, symbols, and images. In my later textile works, I’ve incorporated reused materials, plastics, papers, and various items that some may consider as waste, transforming them from their original functions and giving them new significance.

Inger Anne Nyaas, an artist with a passion for exploring the boundless possibilities of textiles, has made her mark in the world of art. With a foundation in the “Statens Høgskole for Kunsthåndverk og Design” in Bergen, she honed her craft and creative vision, and later enriched her skills further at the Art School in Kabelvåg. Inger Anne’s artistic journey has been paved with recognition and support, as evidenced by various scholarships and grants that have fueled her artistic endeavors.

Throughout her career, Inger Anne’s art has evolved, embracing a fusion of colors, textures, and ideas. Her creations are not confined to traditional canvas; instead, they transcend into conceptual projects that challenge perceptions and breathe life into everyday materials. From Nordland to the world, Inger Anne’s art has graced numerous exhibitions, both solo and collective, capturing the hearts of art enthusiasts and fellow artists alike.

But her artistic contributions go beyond her personal creations. Inger Anne has been an active member of the art community, supporting and promoting fellow artists through her involvement in organizations like Norske Kunsthåndverkere Nord-Norge and K.N.I.V Kunstnerne i Vågan. As a member and treasurer of NKNN (Norske Kunsthåndverkere Nord-Norge), she has played a vital role in nurturing the regional art scene and providing a platform for creative expression.

As the co-founder of Lille Kabelvåg art gallery, Inger Anne Nyaas has found a sanctuary for her art and a space to share her creative spirit with the world. Her artistic voice resonates through the gallery’s halls, inspiring visitors to see the world through the eyes of an artist and encouraging fellow creators to embrace the infinite possibilities that lie within their chosen mediums.

Inger Anne’s artistic journey is far from over, and with each passing moment, she continues to breathe life into textiles, capturing the essence of the world around her and transforming it into breathtaking works of art. Her story, like her art, is one of depth, vibrancy, and endless exploration, a testament to the power of creativity and the enduring legacy of an artist’s passion.
