Cultural immersion at The Blacksmith in Sund

The Blacksmith of Sund is a small, family-owned business with a long history. Master blacksmith Hans Gjertsen founded both the smithy and the Sund Fishery Museum in 1947. They have remained a cornerstone of the community ever since. In their remote location southwest in Lofoten, you can witness live demonstrations of transitional blacksmithing techniques, buy handmade cormorant figures and souvenirs, and learn about the fishing heritage in Lofoten at the Sund Fishery Museum.

Bonus fact: They have a large collection of Norwegian boat motors, together with some from Sweden, Denmark, Finland, England and the USA. These motors are from the period c. 1901-1970, and the oldest operable one dates back to 1908.
