Sørvågen Radio – Telecom Museum

About

Why were the first wireless Morse signals in Northern Europe transmitted from the telegraph station in Sørvågen, far west in Lofoten, and where were these signals sent?

Sørvågen Radio – a telecommunications museum provides the answers to these and many other questions. The museum is housed in the former telegraph and telephone station, built in 1914 based on designs by Lilla Georgine Hansen, Norway’s first female architect.

Sørvågen Radio boasts a rich and fascinating collection showcasing both local and national telecommunications history.

Walk through the different eras of telecommunications and explore devices ranging from the telegraph to telephone exchanges and wireless communication. Check out our mobile phone exhibition and compare your own phone with the 1973 model – quite a difference!
