Lofoten War Memorial Museum

About

The Lofoten War Memorial Museum probably offers Norway´s most extensive collection of uniforms and smaller objects from the second World War. Most likely, this is in fact one of the world´s largest collections of this kind!

The Museum gives a balanced perspective from a very dramatic time periode, from 1940 til 1945. Many rare objects and photos/prints from the war can be found in the collection of the Lofoten War Memorial Museum. Even a library with a large amount of literature and originale prints from the second World War is available here.

The “Lofoten raid” has it´s own exhibition room at the museum.

The exhibitions are quite “un-informally” in their structure. Still, it is of high importance to present the context and each object with respect. Visitors may spend hours studying the details of the exhibitions – or in a relatively short time get a good over-view of this part of world history.

Located in the centre of Svolvær, between the Lofoten Kulturhus and the Hurtigruten (Coastal steamer) pier, the museum is easily accessible. Welcome!
