About

The former coastal express ship MS Finnmarken (1956) stands on land, inside a spectacular protective building. The ship has been restored and is ready to take visitors on a journey through a long and exciting maritime history, where the importance of the Coastal Express for the Norwegian coast is highlighted through a fascinating and unique exhibition.

Step aboard MS Finnmarken, visit the bridge, the galley, the engine room, the mail room, the forecastle, old cabins, and more. On deck stands a Ford 17M from 1971. You are welcome on board!

Experience the unique atmosphere, with original art and decorations on board. Enjoy food and drink in the 1956 dining hall. The museum also houses a section from DS Finmarken (1912), a steamship that once sailed in the Coastal Express service. This section takes you straight into another, bygone era.

There is much to experience. The exhibitions include, among other things: the Coastal Express in wartime and peacetime, the role of the pilot, the story of “our boat” (the Coastal Express), model ships of various coastal liners, Risøyrenna, artifacts from DS Finmarken (1912), a smoking lounge, ladies’ and music lounges in the section from DS Finmarken (1912), access to the wheelhouse, radio room, chart room, cargo hold, lounges, mail room, and more in MS Finnmarken (1956), typical 1950s interior design and decorations, restored lounges from the late 1980s, the dining hall/café from 1956 in MS Finnmarken (1956) – and still there is more.
