About

Get to know the nature, culture and history specific to the Lofoten region and understand our way of life.

– Lofoten Aquarium –
Fish and fascinating sea creatures from the waters surrounding Lofoten. Get to know the life that moves beneath the surface and hides in the deep – from crustaceans to sea cucumbers and a special aquarium for Northeast Atlantic cod. The undisputed highlight of the day is the feeding of the otters and seals. Exhibition about fisheries and aquaculture. Café with a sea view. Family friendly!

– The Espolin Gallery –
The Lofoten landscape has inspired many artists, but few are held in such high regard as Kaare Espolin Johnson (1907–1994). With his characteristic technique he portrayed the life of the coastal people and illustrated many books, including ‘The Last Viking’ (Den siste viking). See an impressive art collection and watch a film in which Espolin talks about his own work. Gift shop with locally produced handicrafts.

– Lofoten Museum –
The impressive manor house was completed in 1815, when Caspar Lorch was the owner of the fishing village. Here he traded and exported fish, as well as renting out cabins to many of those who came to join the Lofoten fisheries in the harsh winter season. Discover the contrast between life in the manor house and the authentic «rorbu»-cabins and see the traditional wooden boats that were used.
