Unique access by boat
For thousands of years, the sea has connected the communities of Lofoten. We follow the same approach, using the boat to reach places that are harder, and sometimes impossible, to experience from the road.
Four days isn’t enough to see all of Lofoten, but it gives us plenty of time to explore. We sail between fishing villages, beaches, islands and sheltered anchorages, heading ashore when there’s something worth exploring.
Depending on the weather and the group, we might hike an alpine valley or a nearby peak, stop at a local restaurant or visit one of the area’s cultural sights. We’ll also try our luck fishing for dinner, and perhaps collect mussels or scallops along the way. If you want to add a little more action, there may also be opportunities for climbing or freediving.
The best of Lofoten in four days
The trip starts and ends in Svolvær. From here, we set sail towards Trollfjorden and Raftsundet before continuing to the small island of Skrova.
Once an important centre for whaling in Lofoten, Skrova is well worth going ashore for. The island’s highest point is only 259 metres above sea level, but the view from the top is anything but small: the Lofoten Wall to the west, Vestfjorden to the south and the mainland towards Hamarøy and Steigen to the east.
From Skrova, we continue towards Henningsvær before eventually taking the inner route back towards Svolvær. The exact route is never completely set in stone – weather and conditions have a say too.
Along the way
There are a few optional activities available during the trip, such as renting a kayak on Skrova, but you don’t need to fill every hour with plans. There’s already plenty to do along the way.
At SeilNorge we generally like to stay active, but that doesn’t mean you have to. If you’d rather stay on board with a coffee, do some yoga, write poems or simply do absolutely nothing for a while, that works too.
And, as on all our trips, you’ll be part of the sailing. No previous sailing experience is needed, we learn as we go. You’ll get new experiences, a few challenges and hopefully that good feeling of figuring things out together with the people on board.
Chances are you’ll also leave Lofoten with a few new friends.

For this trip, we sail aboard one or more of our 44 – 50 foot sailing boats. They become our home, transport and base for exploring Lofoten during the four days
