About

Imagine starting your day aboard an authentic fishing boat with XXLofoten, chasing cod in the Lofoten waters, helping to bring the fish ashore, and then processing it at Thon Hotel Svolvær in their “bruk” before ending the day with the “taste of Lofoten” in the hotel’s restaurant.

If you want a seamless experience from fishing to dining, this is your chance! Fishing in Lofoten varies with the seasons, and during the traditional Lofoten fishery from late February to April, it’s the cod we catch. In spring, summer, and autumn, coastal cod, pollock, mackerel, and tusk are more common. Our experienced crew will guide you throughout the trip, providing insights into the Lofoten fishery through captivating stories alongside the actual fishing. We assist with the catch and deliver it to the modern fish processing plant at Thon Svolvær, where we demonstrate gutting and filleting onboard. The chefs are ready to receive your catch, which will become part of your dinner in the evening.

Our fishing trip includes deep-sea fishing with hand reels aboard an authentic fishing boat. MS Symra, a traditional fishing boat over 100 years old, offers a comfortable experience and is specifically designed for Lofoten fishing. The boat is protected by the Directorate for Cultural Heritage and is certified for 38 passengers.

We set sail from Svolvær, heading to fishing grounds known for good catches depending on the season. There are 10 fishing spots onboard, so guests will need to share their fishing spot with other anglers – a maximum of 20 guests onboard. No worries – you’ll be well satisfied before we head back to the harbor.

Note: When booking this experience, add the dinner in step 2 of the booking process.

Practical Information:
Children are welcome, but they should be accustomed to the sea and over 10 years old during the winter months. In the summer, we offer family rates, and small children can also participate. Winter fishing can bring challenging weather, so it might be wise to have an extra fishing day available for any changes.

Clothing: It can get cold at sea in the winter, so dress warmly with hats, gloves, and several layers of clothing. Shoes with good soles that can withstand water are recommended. We offer shoe rentals if needed for NOK 50.

All our guests receive flotation suits, and fishing equipment is included in the price.
