Fishing in Lofoten varies greatly with the season, and during the traditional Lofotfisket, from end of February to April, we catch skrei. In summer, we catch other types of fish, like pollock, haddock, mackerel and coastal cod. MS Symra is our traditional fishing boat, and she turned 100 years old in 2017. She is a comfortable boat built specifically for Lofotfisket and is certified for 38 passengers. She is protected by the Norwegian Directorate for Cultural Heritage. The trip includes sea fishing with line wheel and/or fishing rod, and we serve coffee on board.
What will you experience?
We invite you to our main office at the pier in Svolvær harbour 15 min before departure, where you will be welcomed by your hosts and crew. Our crew are experienced fishermen and know these seas like the back of hand. They provide full information about what you can expect during the day out, safety on board and they will teach you how to use the fishing tools on board. We then sail out of Svolvær, past the Fisherman’s Wife statue, and head out to the fishing banks we know from experience can provide a good catch. The location can vary, depending on the season. There are 10 fishing stations on board, so our guests must expect to share these between them on the trip. But do not worry, we expect you will be very satisfied by the time we head back to port. And the catch? We teach you to fillet it on board, and of course you can take it home with you if you wish. Other timings and group outings can be arranged on request.
Who is this trip suited for?
We have made this trip suitable for those who have little or no fishing experience, but who would like to try it during a great day at sea. We cannot guarantee a catch, but we do our utmost to help through finding the right fishing spots. The boat trip itself is an experience if you like to immerse yourself in nature, like photography or is interested in learning about fishing. No two trips are alike, and we often see sea eagles and other birds on our trips. This trip is also well suitable for families with children from 4 years of age.
This is included:
– Thermo suit
– All necessary equipment for fishing
– Coffee
What should you bring and wear?
The weather at sea in Lofoten can change rapidly, which is some of the charm of these isles. Fishermen have over hundreds of years learnt what is suitable clothing at sea, and we recommend the same for our guests in the summer, unless the temperature is above 20 degrees centigrade. Please wear: Wool underwear, which isolates and breathes. Fleece, wool sweater or another insulating middle layer in a bag/rucksack with you. Footwear, mittens and hat as necessary.
Departure from our activity center at the quayside in Svolvær. Address: J.E Paulsens gate 9, 8300 Svolvær.
