H\u00e5en, is a very popular mountain hike on the island.<\/p>\n<\/div><div><p>Information about H\u00e5heia<br \/>\n\u2022\tParking:in R\u00f8mdalen.<br \/>\n\u2022\tSeason:April \u2013 October.<br \/>\n\u2022\tDistance:5 km (one way).<br \/>\n\u2022\tAltitude:438 metres above sea level.<br \/>\n\u2022\tDuration:2-3 hours (round trip).<br \/>\n\u2022\tDifficulty: Easy walk suitable for all.<br \/>\n\u2022\tStarting point:From S\u00f8rland at V\u00e6r\u00f8y.<\/p><p>Easy walk suitable for the whole family<br \/>\nH\u00e5heia is the second highest mountain at V\u00e6r\u00f8y. To get to H\u00e5heia (or H\u00e5en), you start the hike at the part of the island called S\u00f8rland. You follow the path in R\u00f8mdalen until you come to the first curve on the road towards the radar station. From here you find a good path leading to the top. The path crosses the road a few times on the way. You get a great view towards S\u00f8rland on the way up, which is the main village at V\u00e6r\u00f8y. The path follows an even upward climb all the way to the top.<\/p><\/div><div><div id=\"vlb-block-cbis-about-read-more-text\"><p>Old eagle houses<br \/>\nOn the way towards H\u00e5en you get a beautiful view of S\u00f8rland, Mosken and the east part of Lofotodden. You can also see restored eagle houses along the way. In the old times, local people used to catch the eagles with their bare hands by hiding in these stone houses. From the top of H\u00e5en you also get a spectacular view towards M\u00e5stad and M\u00e5hornet. M\u00e5stad used to be inhabited until the 1200s \u2013 and remains have been found from settlements dating back to the 900s. The view from the top of H\u00e5heia is unique and if you have seen the pictures from this place, you will understand what we talk about: The azure blue ocean and the chalk white beaches surrounded by steep mountains on each side. On the way back down, you can follow the same path or you can continue towards Hornet and then go down to Nordland.<\/p><p>Frequently asked questions:<br \/>\nIs this walk suitable for families?<br \/>\nThis walk is suitable for everyone and it is perfect for families. But please take good care of the children on the top, where there are steep cliffs. And do not go into the tunnels on the road to the radar station because of the risk of rock falls!<br \/>\nIs it possible to drive a car all the way up?<br \/>\nThe road is closed for cars and most people leave the car when they arrive at V\u00e6r\u00f8y. Take a walk and enjoy the views!<br \/>\nIs this a long and difficult hike?<br \/>\nNo, this is a walk that is suitable for everyone and the path is good. For most people the walk takes about an hour one way.<br \/>\nIs this walk suitable for people with a fear of heights?<br \/>\nYes, the walk is suitable for most people, but there are steep cliffs on the top, so do not walk to the edge of the cliffs if you are scared of heights.<br \/>\nHow do you go to V\u00e6r\u00f8y?<br \/>\nYou get to V\u00e6r\u00f8y by taking the Moskenes ferry over to V\u00e6r\u00f8y, either from Bod\u00f8 or Moskenes.
