About

Local Food Tour that focuses on Lofoten’s sustainable gastronomy. You will visit Aalan gård farm, Polarhagen and stop for a coffee break at Uttakleiv Beach before learning about sustainable seaweed harvesting at Lofoten Seaweed.

Lofoten has much more to offer on the food scene than just stockfish and lamb! If you want to experience a side of Lofoten that you have never seen before, join this Local Food Tour that focuses on ecotourism and sustainable gastronomy, which celebrates seasonal ingredients and producers, as well as culinary traditions.

The tour starts from Pukka’s basecamp in Svolvær and takes you on a scenic drive to Aalan gård farm. You will be greeted by the wonderful and hospitable Åland family that runs a goat farm and a fantastic herb and flower garden. Here, you will get to taste their cheese, the Capra, awarded the Product of the Year in the national farm cheese championship. The reason behind the jury’s decision was that the cheese “tasted like sitting on a mountain top and breathing in the fresh mountain air.”

The next stop is the vegetable garden “Polarhagen” run by a young couple, Parsa and Lisa. They follow traditional gardening techniques and the rhythm of nature while cultivating their land without the use of heavy machinery. Parsa and Lisa will take you on a tour of their garden and give you an insight in how to run agriculture in a climate-friendly and regenerative way. In addition, Parsa is a master at making incredible pizza combinations from the farm products that you will get to taste.

After lunch, we will continue to Uttakleiv beach, where you will enjoy a peaceful coffee break with a view of the ocean.

The last stop will be in a small fishing village Napp where two friends named Angelita and Tamara harvest seaweed in a sustainable way. Their company, called Lofoten Seaweed, was built on the foundation of dedicated hard work and passion for the environment, sustainability and a healthy ocean. You will get to learn about harvesting seaweed, its health benefits, and how to incorporate it into your daily meals.

During this tour, there is a high focus on local food tasting, immersing you in the local life in the 68 degrees latitude.
